New Innovative Ways To Make That Health Insurance Stretch Further

By Catherine Harvey

When my friend had a motorbike crash and broke his leg in several places, his health insurance paid out a tidy sum, which was just as well as he ended up off work for a year with bones that refused to heal. Under normal circumstances, bones will heal themselves by grafting over with new bone growth. Although this can take some time the body is very good at healing itself.

However, this is not always the case and un-healing bones can cause major problems. My friend was threatened with whole limb amputation if the bones didn”t begin to heal themselves very soon as infection is a huge risk. Bone grafts, where bone is taken from another part of the body and grafted on to the problem area is one way this type of injury can be treated but is not always successful.

When a bone is significantly damaged through a severe trauma or when tumours have been removed, extra help to heal is often needed. However, this does lead to more time lost at work and can cause more financial problems. Health insurance will have made their payout but it really is impossible to know how long this will have to last for.

British scientists have made a breakthrough that is hoped will speed up the healing process for broken bones, thus making that health insurance money last the necessary period. A glass implant can be placed in the body which would then dissolve, releasing calcium and encouraging the bones to re-grow.

Bone grafting is second only to blood in terms of the amount of transplanted material but causes other problems. Usually bone is removed from the hip to graft into other needed areas but this can cause a fair amount of post operative pain and much longer recovery time. It also means the amount that can be harvested is limited.

Sometimes, it is possible to use bone from a bone bank or from animals but this carries the risk of rejection or infection.

With glass implants this is not the case. Bone repair, healing and recovery time would be much quicker and the patient would have much less stress wondering how long that health insurance money was going to last.

In this new procedure, a cloudy looking glass implant containing small pore holes that looks similar to bone will be put in place. The implant reacts with bodily fluids once in place and gradually dissolves, bonding to the patient’’s bone and immediately being able to support the body. Further bone will then grow over this. In a clever way, the implant will dissolve at the same rate that new bone grows and replaces it.

The implants also emit silicone which sends signals to the body’’s receptors that tell it to produce more bone. This new material has been developed from a product that was discovered in the Seventies when they found a glass powder which, when applied to broken bones, could only be broken if the bone itself was broken.

Advancing technology has allowed scientists to use that discovery until surgeons are now in a position to put it into regular practice.

This is being hailed as a breakthrough, particularly for the elderly whose bones take longer than average to heal. Every year, many elderly people suffer broken hips and have to go through the agony of hip replacement. It is thought that it will be possible to use these implants in the majority of cases. Another favoured application will be the repair of cleft palates in children as the repair will be immediately useable and will do away with the need for further surgery as the child grows.

What Is A Security Deposit

By Arnold Hernandez

The residential security deposit that is often a source of conflict at the end of a lease or rental agreement is defined under state law. The actual definition varies from state to state, but for the most part residential rental deposits are substantially the same in each state. The purpose of the definition of a security deposit is to protect consumers from landlords that often try to take advantage.

Under California law a residential security deposit is codified in the civil code. It is defined as any payment, fee, deposit or charge, including but not limited to, any payment, fee deposit, or charge, except as provided for under section 1950.6, that is imposed at the beginning of the tenancy to be used to reimburse the landlord for costs associated with processing a new tenant or that is imposed as an advance payment of rent, used or to used for any purpose, including, but not limited to compensation for the landlord for the tenant’’s default in payment of rent; repairing damages to the premises caused by tenant or by the tenant’’s guests or licensees (excluding ordinary wear and tear);cleaning the premises upon termination of the tenancy; and if the rental agreement so provides, remedying future tenant defaults in an obligation under the rental agreement to restore, replace or return personal property. The residential security deposit does not become something else by labeling it something else.

Under the definition of a residential security deposit the security deposit includes the fees imposed at the beginning of tenancy for the purpose of processing a new tenant. The so called screening fees are refundable security deposits unless specifically exempted. The type of screening information that is not refundable is the fee charged for obtaining personal background information relating to the tenants rental history such as personal reference check, consumer credit reports, and past unlawful detainer litigation. This screening fee may not exceed $30 and it subject to adjustment every year. A landlord may not charge a screening fee if the landlord knows there is no vacancy or should know there is no vacancy. The landlord is also required to itemize the screening activities, the amount of time spent on each activity, and the out of pocket expenses incurred by the landlord and provide a copy to the tenant. If a credit check was done a copy of the credit report must also be provided the tenant.

Overall the intent of the regulations is to keep the landlord from taking advantage of the tenant by attempting to mischaractirize or misuse the security deposit.

Fat Or Thin - Don\’t Let It Cost You

By Catherine Harvey

It’’s a well known fact that life insurance companies have guidelines as to the risks they and their customers are going to be taking when embarking on life insurance schemes. It’’s an obvious statement to make that they want to protect their own assets and are concerned about insuring people who already have long term or chronic illnesses diagnosed. They call it wanting their customers to have long, healthy lives but whatever.

This is why it is absolutely essential to disclose every possible ailment on your life insurance application forms. It may increase your premiums slightly but if they can find a way out of a payout then they will and there’’s no point in making it easy for them.

Another thing that life insurance companies take into consideration when working out your premiums is your weight and build. They possess their own set of, somewhat outdated, guidelines that suggest healthy weight limits for men and women of different ages. Fall outside of these guidelines and you will see your life insurance premiums soar.

However, the press is full of advice about how to tackle both ends of the problem - obesity and anorexia. Solve these and not only will we all be that little bit healthier but also a little richer. Obesity is, as far as doctors are concerned, a fairly straightforward problem. For all the people that claim their obesity is due to thyroid, hormone or metabolism problems, very few are, in fact. And these can mostly be solved with medicine.

For the vast majority, obesity is due to putting too much food in the face and not taking enough exercise. And one of the biggest problems to overcoming this is will power itself. You cannot buy will power and the person that makes that possible will be very rich indeed.

Various drugs come on the market aimed at reducing obesity and are prescribed through doctors. Only prescribed in extreme circumstances where the extra weight is life threatening, these drugs come with some very nasty side effect. Namely, uncontrollable diarrhoea. Still people see it as a miracle cure, they continue to eat and think the doctor will put it right by prescribing pills to make the weight go away.

An over the counter product is now available that is half the strength of the prescribed pills but available to all. The idea is that you take three pills a day with meals and if any part of that meal contains over a certain amount of fat, that meal will pass through you rapidly and without warning. The manufacturers recommend that until you get used to this event, or until you resist fatty food, you should always carry spare clothes with you!

Now resisting fatty food is not always easy. God knows, I love a regular dose of chocolate and the occasional bag of chips but I know full well that if it was that or opening my bowels in public, I know the chips and chocolate would go first!

Does running with such urgency to the toilet not constitute a health risk, particularly in a restaurant serving greasy food? Slippery floors etc? Would patients on these drugs increase their life insurance premiums thus?

The cost of this so-called ”wonder drug” comes in at approximately one pound per day. IF you follow a strict diet and exercise you can lose 3lb a week instead of the 2lb you would lose on a normal diet and exercise programme. Is it worth it I ask myself. You could easily lose that extra pound a week by slightly reducing portion sizes or, as a more entertaining and much less messy method, have one more round of sex!

For those at the other end of the spectrum comes higher life insurance premiums for the severely underweight - the anorexics. It is widely debated whether or not anorexia is a disease of the mind or body and, speaking from experience, it is very difficult to tell.

I don”t believe you are born with any particular gene that would develop into anorexia later in life but you can, from a very early age, suffer with such low self esteem that events in life bring you to such a low ebb that you turn on yourself. Is anorexia brought on by depression or do you get depressed because you do not have the nutritional basis to think straight? An argument that will go on for some time.

However, some preventative measures are being put in place to stop the up-coming generation of young girls from succumbing to this feeling that they have to be underweight to be worthy people. The French government are leading the way in banning all advertising that promotes anorexia. Mostly aimed at websites, fashion magazines and advertisers, anybody seen to be recommending ways of losing excessive amounts of weight will be punished with fines up to 36,000 pounds and/or jail terms of up to three years.

Hopefully, this move will ease some of the pressures that young girls feel to conform to a certain unrealistic and unhealthy size. The rest of the world would do well to follow suit.

How to Understand Life Insurance

By Joshua Watson

Life insurance is an important part of any family especially if you have many financial obligations. Some people might not like to think about life insurance for the obvious reasons, but please remember that with the right coverage you can insure that your family will be taken care of if anything should ever happen to you.

Thousands of people around the world neglect to purchase life insurance creating a very strenuous situation for their loved ones. One of the most important aspects of Life insurance is that in case of your death, your family will receive a steady stream of income so that they will be able to maintain their current standard of living. Losing a loved one is hard enough so there is no reason why they should also struggle financially. The good news is that you have the power to prevent this from ever happening.

If you are in doubt and don”t know how much insurance to purchase do not worry because we can help. The primary idea is to provide your family with what they will need to help them overcome any financial obligation presented by your death. To achieve this goal the common guideline is five to ten times an annual salary, but this is nothing more than very general numbers. What you should be aiming for is income replacement. Even if you already have life insurance it never hurts to make sure that your current plan provides sufficient coverage especially if your family has grown over the years. You might even find it sensible to purchase additional life insurance to provide more income to your family.

All you have to do is choose the level of coverage you require and if something might happen to you there will be a lump sum available to help your family when they need it most. With the right life insurance plan you can guarantee that your family won”t have to worry about unpaid bills, taxes, funeral costs and other financial obligations after you have parted.

Life insurance will provide you with a reassurance that in case of any unfortunate occurrence, finances will be one less thing your family will have to worry about. So don”t wait any longer, give your family and loved ones a gift that makes a difference. Act now and rest assured that if anything should ever happen your loved ones will be taken care of.

Temp Cover Could Save You

By Shaun Parker

I have spent much of my working life living abroad and one of the things that has struck me as strange when I have returned back to the UK is that the British have a very different attitude to their vehicles than the Americans or South Africans. People in England never share a vehicle and would never lend it to someone so that they can quickly make a run to the shops.

In America and South Africa this is the norm and the reason that people can be so sharing with their vehicles is that in these countries the insurance companies tend to insure the vehicles as opposed to insuring the individual that drives the vehicle. That means that in those countries anyone that has a full licence can drive the vehicle and if there is an accident the costs will be covered.

I recently forgot that I was in the UK and asked a friend if I could borrow his car to make a trip to the shops but was met with a Paddington hard stare for my troubles. It was like I”d asked him for a night with his wife. This was partly as a result of my not-exactly-impeccable driving record but was mostly due to the fact that this kind of thing is unheard of in the UK.

As a result it means that if you are an ex-pat returning to the UK for a holiday, a student back from University for a break or someone that is moving home and is in need of transport it can be difficult to borrow a car. Fortunately there are an increasing number of insurance providers that offer a short term or temp cover arrangement that means that you can insure yourself on a vehicle for a short time period.

Insurance can be arranged over a short period and this can offer a number of benefits. Firstly it means that people that want to lend their vehicle to someone do not have to add people to their existing policy. Temp cover arrangements are usually arranged via the phone or the internet and policy documents can usually be faxed or emailed to the recipient immediately so that you can drive around immediately with a copy of the policy document in hand. The other major benefit of this type of coverage is that you can arrange it over a short period of time and you will not have to tie yourself into a long term insurance cover arrangement.

The temp cover arrangements that are offered by insurance providers have become extremely popular with people that want to borrow a vehicle for a holiday, people that need to drive a car that is owned by someone that has been admitted to hospital and even people that want to make a trip to the dump! Arranging this type of insurance cover is great for people that do not want to get stung by high car hire costs.

It obviously means that you have to know someone that is willing to lend you a car but if that is the case then you will undoubtedly save money. Coverage can be arranged with immediate effect so if you want to arrange to test drive a vehicle or if you want to drive a vehicle that you have just purchased home then it could be for you.

Determining Adequate Personal Insurance Coverage

By Jim Brown

Some consumers are completely lost when they are asked to select the amount of insurance coverage they need for a homeowner’’s policy. There are a variety of situations that could occur in and around the home and these instances can cause a significant amount of insurance claims to be brought against the owner if they are not insured for an amount that reaches the right price range.

There are many types of personal insurance that a homeowner can choose and various levels of protection are available under each of those policies. With the help of an insurance salesman or broker, a homeowner can get a true picture of what insurance coverage is currently in place and what adjustments will have to be made to cover new additions to the home such as extra rooms or outdoor equipment such as a pool or whirlpool spa.

Accidents can occur anywhere in the home and this includes the entire property that belongs to a landowner. Some people might exclude driveways or access roads on the property from coverage and later regret it when an accident occurs that causes injuries to people and destruction to crops, nurseries or a multitude of machinery and equipment that is in the general area that is used for business.

The personal insurance coverage for a home might be significantly lower than the insurance required for home businesses. Some insurers will require that separate policies be written that include insurance riders that separate business property from that used in everyday living activities. The homeowner will have to consider the current market value for the home and insure for that amount and more.

Some home insurance policies will have to be modified to include structures that are attached to the home such as porches and portable sheds. The values of insurance coverage should be duly noted for any items on the property that are not considered to be the legal residence of the dweller. A homeowner can achieve considerable value for the money when these structures are included and covered in an insurance claim.

When determining how adequate the personal insurance coverage is when it is time to pay medical expenses for visitors on the property, an insurance policy should include amounts for long-term medical care through rehabilitation programs. The policy should also include the amounts that will cover the replacement cost for utility poles and other equipment that is part of the public utility system.

When considering the amount of coverage needed to protect the homeowner in all areas, the applicant should consider all situations that seem improbable because these are the situations that might ruin lives because people did not insure against them happening. People will often sue just to earn extra cash and hope that people are not covered with enough insurance to find out the truth by coverage that pays for investigators and fees for such things as police reports.

Personal Insurance Protects All Makes Of Automobiles

By Jim Brown

There are many laws on the books that require automobile owners to have personal insurance policies for every automobile parked at home or driven on the streets. Some of these cars might not have been driven for many years because they are collectible antique automobiles and others are used to drive homeowners back and forth to work. The age of the automobile does not exclude the homeowner from obtaining insurance coverage of some sort.

The collectible antique automobiles are usually stored for safekeeping in a secure environment such as the family’’s garage and while some homeowners feel that this is adequate protection from many elements, they also realize that is still possible for them to be damaged by some unforeseen circumstances. Some might choose a personal insurance automobile policy that includes this automobile with all of the others and some collectors put these collectibles on a policy separately.

In order to ensure that these automobiles can be repaired correctly if damages ever occur, a homeowner usually get a personal insurance policy on them that will reimburse the owner for the full value of the car as it is valued on the antique automobile collector’’s circuit. The settlement amount for this type of personal insurance might be less than the homeowner expected to get but it will be enough if the homeowner has other personal insurance coverage for the home.

There are various deductibles associated with personal insurance policies for automobiles. The highest deductible rate will usually make the personal insurance policies very affordable but this is cold hard cash that must be presented up front before any type of work can be performed. Some automobile shops are willing to take a small payment on the deductible to get work started but the homeowner will have to have the remainder of the deductible paid before they can pick the car up.

Most people feel very confident driving these days because they know they have the right automobile insurance in place. These types of personal insurance policies will not only help to get the automobile repaired but it will also make sure that every passenger involved in a vehicular accident are protected and can get adequate medical care if they need it.

Many of these personal insurance policies will help to pay for hospital bills, medications and physical therapy charges for many weeks down the road and automobile owners will know the monetary amount of coverage that is available for these purposes because they defined the limits when they took out the automobile personal insurance policy.

A Use For The Health Insurance Premiums Of Alzheimer\’s Patients

By Catherine Harvey

One of the things that is covered by health insurance is mental illness. However, when it comes to things like Alzheimer’’s Disease, the pay out from health insurance can never possibly last long enough.

Alzheimer’’s is a degenerative mental illness that can onset quickly, or slowly, and last for years. It is a desperately sad way to see your loved ones finish off their days and the extra income from health insurance will help with the necessities of life.

However, there is hope. Drugs are available to delay the onset once symptoms are beginning to show and sufferers can continue to function normally for some time. Due to be widely available this summer is a new blood test to detect the possibilities of this disease up to six years before it takes hold.

This should have the advantage of potential victims being able to implement lifestyle changes to give themselves the best chance of holding off the illness for as long as possible, such as increased exercise to increase blood flow to the brain and a healthier diet. Although there is no definitive proof that these work, some people swear by them and with 500 new cases diagnosed in the UK every day, it has to be worth trying.

It seems that money really is everything in this world though as this new test has raised concerns that health insurance companies will try to force this test on people of a certain age, thus pushing up their premiums.

The test is based on measuring proteins in the blood and can distinguish between Alzheimer’’s, Parkinson’’s and Motor Neurone disease and patients will be given a score based on the laws of probability. Probability is not certainty and would it be just of the health insurance companies to impose higher costs on that basis?

Continuing the fight against this disease are the researchers at Aberdeen University who claim to have found a definite link between consuming Omega 3 oils, as found in oily fish, nuts and seeds and the onset of Alzheimer’’s. So the old adage that fish is brain food seems to be true and not just a ploy by your mother to get you to eat it.

Further news for those interested in developments in the field of this disease comes from the US in the form of experimental trials that are due to begin with a drug that claims to reverse the symptoms of Alzheimer’’s within minutes. The drug has so far been used to treat arthritis and during treatment for several patients it was noted with surprise that certain things happened as an apparent side effect.

Video evidence has come to light of an elderly man who was shown to be in the full throes of Alzheimer’’s before being injected with the drug. Within five minutes, not only was he functioning quite normally but recognised his wife for the first time in years.

It was found that levels of tumour necrosis factor (TNF) is up to twenty five times higher in the fluid surrounding the brain of Alzheimer’’s patients. The drug was found to bind itself to excess TNF, deactivating it. When injected directly into the spine at the base of the neck, the drug has a fast route to where it is needed and results have varied between gradual improvements after a course of treatments to virtually instant reversal. Some patients have even recovered enough to start driving again.

This drug is not yet licensed for use in the treatment of Alzheimer’’s and further tests are required to authenticate these claims, but the outlook is hopeful. If it wasn”t for the money, of course.

Because the drug is directly injected into the spine it requires fully trained staff and there is concern that this will be an obstacle. Maybe this is where health insurance will come into play.

The Benefits Of One Month Car Insurance

By Shaun Parker

Finding insurance cover for a vehicle for short periods of time can be extremely complicated and negotiating with your existing insurance provider can be time consuming and frustrating. Fortunately there are an increasing number of insurance providers that make finding this type of insurance much easier. One month car insurance usually refers to a period of time that is less than 28 days and it is an extremely popular option for people that want to have temporary access to a vehicle but do not want to be tied into a long contract.

The concept of short term cover is that it allows you to insure yourself or a friend to drive a vehicle for a short period of time. Such are the laws in the UK that going without insurance is entirely illegal and irresponsible. By setting up an independent insurance deal you are able to drive around a vehicle without having to go through the hassle of having to add new people to an existing policy. It is a great option as many of the providers will send you a policy over the internet so that you can print them off and have a copy immediately. This can be extremely beneficial as you do not have to wait for a policy document to be posted. This means that you can drive away the vehicle that you have borrowed with great peace of mind. This can also be extremely encouraging if you have just handed over your car to someone else!

Aside from this there are many further benefits to short term policy cover. As already mentioned the speed at which you can arrange this coverage is often rapid and the possibility of printing off the document immediately delivers a number of benefits. One month insurance cover could be a great option is you were going away on a holiday and wanted to borrow a car, if you were moving house or furniture and wanted to borrow a vehicle to do so or if you were going to the tip or even a trip to University to drop of a child. It can work out far cheaper than hiring a vehicle.

Many people choose to use one month car insurance cover for family members. It is a great option for people that have children that come home from university for the holiday periods and would like access to the family car. The length of period in which you can take out a policy is variable so if you only wanted a policy for a shorter amount of time it is easy to arrange it. One of the best things about this type of agreement is that if an accident were to happen then it would not affect your current insurance agreement. This can be extremely beneficial if you have a careless student on your hands!

This type of agreement is also used for situations such as arranging for a friend to have access to your vehicle if you become ill. If you have been admitted to hospital for an extended period or need regular lifts to the doctor but can”t drive then enabling someone else to drive your vehicle could be the answer. Many people also use this type of cover if their vehicle has gone in for a service or to have repair work done and they would like to borrow their partner’’s vehicle for a short period.

What\’s So Great About Short Term Car Insurance?

By Shaun Parker

Short term Car insurance is a great option for people that want to insure a vehicle for a short period of time and not want to get caught up in a complex and long term agreement. It is used by people that want to borrow a vehicle from a friend for a short period of time. You might be looking to go away for the weekend, you may borrow a vehicle to move house or transport large items or you may need cover for a vehicle if someone is ill or unable to drive.

The range of short-term car insurance deals that are available are vast and there are a number of companies that provide agreements over the short period of time. Many of these companies operate on the internet so that you can choose a deal that suits you and apply directly online. This both saves you time but also means that you can print off the policy agreement without having to wait for it to make it to you through the post.

Most agreements that are considered short-term are those that last between 1 and 28 days. They can usually be set up for all types of vehicles. So if you are looking to borrow a van to move some furniture, a car for a holiday or a motorbike for a weekend tour then this type of insurance agreement is likely to benefit you. Modern life often requires that we need to be somewhere fast and this type of insurance makes it easy to arrange your journey quickly.

If you have a situation where you need to have a vehicle quickly and have someone that is willing to lend you theirs then it should help you. It might also be an option for those business users that need to use a vehicle that they are not insured on for a trip to a meeting.

There are a number of providers that underwrite these agreements in the UK. This means that you can arrange a quick solution to your problem from a provider that you trust and value. You do not have to contact the company that currently provides your insurance. This means that it is extremely straightforward. As a result you can have peace of mind without the stress of having to change existing agreements.

You are likely to have a single price that you can pay off and be assured that you are covered regardless of anything else. Most of these types of cover are arranged on a fully comprehensive basis so that regardless of what may happen the costs will be covered.

The coverage is great for people that want to take a new vehicle for a test drive or drive a new vehicle home from the show room for a new purchase. The process of arranging a short term cover policy bypasses the complex process of changing an existing policy agreement and as always mentioned it makes it simple as the certificate can be printed off at home and the person that needs it in a hurry does not have to wait for the mail!

Many of these providers also have an option where you can arrange breakdown cover so that even if you break down you do not come across damaging payments. This can be extremely useful of you are borrowing a friend’’s car.
